This storyboard starts from bottom to top. The native female warrior at the bottom approaches a cliff. She is surprised to see a five headed beast appear from a swamp behind her. Her friend appears from far away and strikes the creature form a distance, scoring hits on all heads. The top storyboard has the creature growing another head and trying to strike with her back turned. She kills the last head and it falls, forming a bridge across the cliff for the two natives to pass.
(Starting from the bottom board first from left to right:)
Panel 1 She approaches the canyon cliff and sees no way across
Panel 2 As she looks down the heads of the beast arise from the swamp behind her
Panel 3 She fully turns around as the creature reveals most of it's length
Panel4 From a distance her companion takes careful aim with her bow and arrow
Panel 5 One of the heads tries to take a bite at the native near the cliff. The arrow is infused with mystical incantations that give it specialized powers. It flies behind the the creatures head.
Panel 6 And strikes!
Panel 7 More arrows follow
Panel 8 and they hit their mark
Panel 9 as she turns her back assuming that they are all dead the first native takes her leave
Panel 10 Until one creature who is not quite dead attempts to get her with her back turned
Panel 11 A surprise spin and slash with her spear carves the beast mouth apart
Panel 12 The dying carcass falls back over the crevice and forms a bridge to cross.
Hello Lawrence
ReplyDeleteGot the link this week. Let's talk about the board a little first. Fix the order of the drawings (I really can't tell the order of the panels so its hard to comment on how things are flowing/ how shots hook up). So, clean that up, and while you are at it, check your screen direction. Try not to great the 180 degree rule (look that up online if you need to fresh your memory on it). So, board needs to be reorganized, flushed out a little more (screen direction cleaned up). Then, we can talk a little more in depth about it.
Secondly, you've got some reference photos up here, but I don't know how they connect to your characters in the film. It looks like the two characters are the main human character and the monster... I'd like to see some drawings/ designs of your monster as well as the main character. Use the reference to come up with who those characters are.
So, for next week... Need to see a polished board and solid character designs. Also, need to see a sample of what this final piece will look like. Will be an animatic (I think). So, show us a shot/ drawing of what that animatic might look like. Let me know if you have any questions.

Also... need a lot more written descriptions here about your thought process, description of your characters, the story, etc... Type it out here. I only know what you're thinking by what you write, so write everything on your mind here. Spell it out.

We will be presenting this stuff in class next week, so be ready to show. Would be nice to have a very polished board; however, if you could create an animatic as well, that would be fantastic. Talk soon.
